If surveillance capitalism continues, the internet is going to fragment into even more discrete, polarized parts. Your phone will know what you want before you do, the way we think and our ability to critically think and reason will forever be stunted. Companies operating under a surveillance capitalism model will stop at nothing to collect more data, generate more revenue, and accrue higher status. They will grow and grow – the ones with the most aggregate data at the top. We’ll have more monopolies and less freedom. The internet will be saturated with ads, everybody’s experience will vary dramatically on the same couple platforms, and you’ll have a choice: either trust everything or trust nothing.
